Discover one of Costa Rica’s most fascinating and biodiverse ecosystems on this unforgettable excursion to Tortuguero National Park, known worldwide as the “Amazon of Costa Rica” for its extensive network of natural canals, lush tropical forests, and extraordinary wealth of wildlife.
The adventure begins by crossing the impressive Braulio Carrillo National Park, one of the most important protected areas in the country. During the tour you will enjoy spectacular mountain landscapes covered by tropical rainforest.
En route we will make a stop to enjoy a delicious typical Costa Rican breakfast, which includes natural juice, freshly prepared coffee, eggs and the traditional gallo pinto, considered one of the most representative dishes of national cuisine.
We will continue our trip towards the Caribbean region, passing through extensive banana plantations. During the journey, our guide will share interesting details about the history, cultivation, harvest and export of bananas, one of the most important agricultural products in Costa Rica.
Later we will begin the most exciting part of the experience: a boat tour through the famous canals of Tortuguero. We will navigate through this extraordinary labyrinth of waterways surrounded by more than 29,000 hectares of humid tropical forest, considered one of the most important ecosystems in the country.
Tortuguero National Park is internationally recognized for being one of the most important nesting sites in the world for the green sea turtle. In addition, its canals and forests are home to an impressive diversity of wildlife, including sloths, monkeys, coatis, agoutis, alligators, crocodiles, freshwater turtles and manatees, one of the most emblematic and difficult species to observe in Costa Rica.
Bird lovers will find a true paradise here, with species such as toucans, trogons, herons, egrets, aninghas and many other tropical birds. It will also be possible to admire colorful butterflies, including the spectacular Blue Morpho butterfly, famous for the intense metallic shine of its wings.
At noon we will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch with typical Costa Rican options, ideal to recharge your batteries while enjoying the natural environment of the region.
After lunch we will visit the picturesque town of Tortuguero, where we will learn more about the history, culture and lifestyle of its inhabitants. This coastal community, accessible only by river or air, retains a unique charm and a close relationship with the nature that surrounds it.
After the visit, we will begin our return sailing through the canals again to later board our land transportation back to San José, taking with us unforgettable memories of one of the most extraordinary natural destinations in Costa Rica.
