This tour showcases Costa Rican culture and history through visits to museums and historical sites in San José.

On this tour, we’ll visit sites of historical interest such as the lobby of the National Theater, a national monument built by Costa Rican hands in 1897, also known as “The Jewel of San José,” and the Costa Rican Gold Museum (a site of great archaeological interest). We’ll also make several stops at different points of importance in the city, including the University of Costa Rica, the old train station, the National Liquor Factory, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, the Legislative Assembly, the Metal Building, the Central Market, and several parks. In short, this tour offers an introduction to our capital city, as well as information on relevant topics such as economics, culture, politics, religion, and current events.

Discover the history, culture and traditions of San José on a fascinating tour of the main monuments, museums and emblematic sites of the Costa Rican capital.

During this experience you will have the opportunity to get to know the essence of Costa Rica up close while walking the streets of a city full of history, architecture and cultural wealth.

Our first stop will be a renowned craft store, where you can admire and purchase beautiful souvenirs made by Costa Rican artisans, including wooden pieces, gourmet coffee, local art and other typical products ideal for bringing a little piece of Costa Rica home.

Later we will visit the elegant lobby of the National Theater, considered one of the most important and emblematic buildings in the country. Known as the “Architectural Jewel of San José”, this magnificent work was built thanks to the impulse of the coffee industry and completed in 1897. Its impressive decoration, imported marbles, sculptures and artistic details reflect the cultural splendor of the late 19th century.

We will continue to the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, one of the most important archaeological treasures in Costa Rica. Here you can admire an extraordinary collection of gold pieces made by the ancient indigenous civilizations that inhabited the Costa Rican territory before the arrival of Europeans, while learning about their history, beliefs and traditions.

Our next stop will be the traditional Mercado Central de San José, a place full of history, flavors and authentic Costa Rican culture. Its narrow corridors are home to small shops, traditional sodas, crafts and typical products that reflect the daily life of Costa Ricans. This is the ideal place to experience the local atmosphere and acquire unique souvenirs.

We will also visit the historic Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the most important religious temples in the country and a symbol of the urban and spiritual development of San José.

Throughout the panoramic tour of the city, our guide will show you some of the most representative buildings and monuments of the capital, including the University of Costa Rica, the Old Railway Station, the National Liquor Factory, the Supreme Court of Elections, the Legislative Assembly, the historic Metallic Building and several parks and public spaces of great cultural and historical relevance.
